Vinyl Care Tips in times of a lock-down

While we’re sure everyone is as concerned as we are with the recent lock-down and COVID-19 outbreak situation, we thought it would be quite refreshing to turn your attention away from that and onto our favourite subject of vinyl! We put together a few vinyl care tips for those of you who like us, are currently in a much more “stay at home” state and suddenly find you have a lot more free time on your hands!

So, without further ado, here are some of our top tips for what you can do with your precious vinyl collection in times of a lockdown! Look after yourselves, look after your vinyls and take care!

Vinyl Care Tip 1 – Re-organise your Collection!

What better way to spend a few hours in a day than re-organising those shuffled albums which you’ve got in your shelves? We’re all guilty of picking up an album or two, giving it a spin and then putting it back in the wrong spot on your shelf. By the end of a few weeks or months you can’t seem to find anything anymore!

So, why not take this time at home to bring some order into your collection?

For some fun tips, here’s a few of our favourite ways to sort vinyl:

1. Organise by Album Title

Probably one of the easier ways of doing it, but you could organize the records by album title alphabetically.

There are of course some caveats to this method – one being that it requires you to know the name of every album (which is part of the idea of record collecting!), but what about the albums which don’t have a title? Think of the first 4 Led Zeppelin Albums or the Fleetwood Mac white album – they don’t have titles so where would you place those?

2. Or … our personal favourite:

Organise autobiographically – here’s a pro-tip! We’ll let the expert speak to it rather than us:

Vinyl Care Tip 2 – Clean your Records!

While you’re re-organising your collection, why not take the time to pull out those second hand records you probably have which have been accumulating lots of dust and grime on them and given them a shine?

We always find that giving records a quick dry clean with a brush is good practice before playing them, but a more in-depth wet clean can do wonders to restore an album to its former glory!

Luckily for you we’ve got a great little starter guide on what are some best practices for cleaning your records on our blog! Take the time to have a read and then have a go at it yourself. A day spent looking after your precious vinyl collection is always a day well spent in our book!!
